Wildflowers

Music & lyrics by David Imrie

Golden boy
Did you know when you died
You broke a young girl’s heart
She hides amongst the trees
Until the funeral is over
And then she cries
Beside the newly laden earth

And his mother never found out
Where all the wildflowers
Upon his grave were from

And now she’s older
A mother of two children
Well time goes by
But still sometimes
As she walks by the graveyard
She remembers his face
Remembers a young girl
Crying in the cold and rain

And still sometimes she lays
Just a few wildflowers
Upon his grave again

So golden boy
Does it hurt at all
Or do the lights just go out?
Did you feel her eyes upon you
The hidden love the doubt
The lack of explanation
For the year she spent insane

And still sometimes she lays
Just a few wildflowers
Upon his grave again

And still sometimes she lays
Just a few wildflowers
Upon his grave again
